Good Reads: Microcrafts

by fh_rachel on OCTOBER 20, 2011
I just adore this new mini-craft book, Microcrafts: Tiny Treasures to Make and Share ($16.95, Quirkbooks). My good friend Sarah Goldschadt (who've you have seen on this blog before — we featured her mini heart garland printable and cupcake toppers for my sister-in-law's baby shower — contributed two projects to this book, including a how-to... Good Reads: Design*Sponge at Home

by fh_rachel on SEPTEMBER 09, 2011
It's like Christmas morning at my desk today. I've just gotten my hands on a copy of Design*Sponge at Home, Gracey Bonney's brand-new book based off her blog of the same name. It's a well organized and beautifully designed book — nearly 400 pages of Grace's favorite sneak peeks, DIY projects, DIY basics, flower workshops,... Read more »

good reads: american pickers guide to picking

by fh_rachel on SEPTEMBER 07, 2011
I watch little TV. Sure, I have my ol' standards: Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, the occasional Friends re-run. But really, I'm kind of a boring TV watcher. That said, there are rainy days where my guilty pleasures come to light. No, no, I refuse to go Jersey Shore-style. Nope, my guilty pleasures usually involve... Read more »

good reads: terrarium craft

by fh_rachel on MAY 12, 2011
I worked with Kate Bryant — who, along with Amy Bryant Aiello, wrote Terrarium Craft (Timber Press, $18.95) — in Portland, Oregon, so I was really excited to see her new book come across my desk here in New York! After all, terrariums are hot. Over the holidays, I posted about terrarium ornaments, and our... Read more »

by fh_rachael on APRIL 27, 2011
I recently posed this question to the Fresh Home staff: “What DIY skill would you like to master, and why?” (You can see their answers in our upcoming summer issue.) At the top of my list is woodworking. I love the idea of building a piece of furniture—maybe even something I can bequeath to my... Read more »

I'm so excited to share a sneak peek of Holiday with Matthew Mead with you today, not only to officially kick off the holiday season, but because I've worked with Matthew a lot and I adore his work. This bookazine is so gorgeous and full of Matthew's clever, sophisticated and beautiful holiday DIY projects, craft... Read more »

video: ikea cookbook

by fh_rachel on OCTOBER 27, 2010
Have you heard about IKEA's cookbook, Hembakat är Bäst (Homemade Is Best)? The ingredient photographs, by Carl Kleiner and styled by Evelina Bratell, are absolutely gorgeous: It's free at IKEA — but only if you live in Sweden. For now, we'll just have to admire. But, good news: IKEA released the “how it was made”... Read more »

good reads: a perfectly kept house

by fh_rachel on OCTOBER 14, 2010
The lovely Mary Randolph Carter has a new book out with a pretty awesome title: A Perfectly Kept House is the Sign of  Misspent Life ($55, Rizzoli New York). Agreed? Agreed. The pages are chock-full of houses brimming with collections, colorful textiles, worn objects, vintage finds, artwork and well-loved clutter. There's an entire chapter dedicated... Read more »
