I’m excited that we have another new Fresh Face to introduce, Amanda Bowe, from Our Humble A{Bowe}d. She’ll be blogging here about the DIY and renovation projects she and her husband are doing in their 1960s rancher. I first met Amanda when I featured her amazing house makeover last year, and I was sold ever since. Without further ado, here’s Amanda! – Rachel
Hello, Fresh Home readers! I’m Amanda from Our Humble A{Bowe}d, where we blog about transforming our 1960′s rancher, one room at a time.
Since Halloween is fast approaching, I have a few cheap, quick, and easy ideas to spookify your front porch.
1) Black Feather Wreath: To create, you’ll need is a wreath form — which could be as simple as a piece of cardboard cut into a circle — feathers and a hot glue gun. We used fishing line for a cheap wreath hanger. Just press a tack into the top of your door, where it’s out of sight:
2) Spooky Tree: If you have a dead branch or two you’ve been meaning to cut down, use them to create this eerie tree. Spray paintt he branches black and let dry. In the meantime, fill a planter with dirt. When the branches are dry, stick them in the dirt, cover the dirt with moss and you’re done:
3) Custom Skeletons: We love the Dollar Store for inexpensive Halloween decor, but they don’t always look just how we want. This year, we found a skeleton and a few skulls, and we gave them a quick coat of white shiny spray paint for a custom look without the custom price:
4) Stump Side Table: Continuing with the dead tree theme, haul an old stump from the backyard for a character-filled (and free!) side table. Complete the cozy feel with painted pillows for a perfectly coordinated look:
5) Cute Costumes: Of course, Halloween isn’t complete without a fun costume. So, ask your kids what they want to be — their answers might surprise you. Or, check out Fresh Home’s cute Halloween costume ideas. Last year, my three-year old son requested to be a credit card:
