western decorating ideas

by fh_heather_r on AUGUST 03, 2011

Howdy ya’ll! I just got back from a week long vacation in Cowboy Country. Anyone heard of Cheyenne, Wyoming? It hosts the “Daddy of ‘em All” Frontier Days Rodeo. Talk about a culture shock for this Midwestern girl. I felt like a fish out of water without a cowboy hat and spurs.

But if I learned anything from my trip out west—besides how to swing dance—is that western decorating can be totally chic! You wouldn’t believe what they used for clever storage and accent pieces. And talk about turquoise—it was everywhere!

In the heat of the moment, get inspired by these funky finds. Will the boot fit?

I like these barstools as a potential DIY project:

Turquoise Barn Wood Stool, $200, from Original Texas Gifts

This rug is great for a playful splash of color, or to accessorize a kid’s room:

Durango Ranch Rug, $120, from Lone Star Western Decor

Get antlered inspiration with this modern twist on a Western bowl:

Thatch Bowl, $95, from Michael Aram

Or spruce up your walls with a turquoise mirror and horse-inspired wall shelves:

Turquoise Suede Mirror, $550, from Original Texas Gifts

Stirrup Shelf, $29, from Crow's Nest Trading Co.

My home is all decorated with western stuff . I think it gives my home a personality. I bought it all at http://bcrossbwestern.com. They have really good prices.

I love Western decor! It's great to add rustic, natural touches. But like most other styles, I think it works best in small doses. Too much of one style comes off as a “theme”!

Now there's something to come home and kick your boots up to!

Melissa, I tend to agree! I'm all for big, bold statements, but would probably decorating restraint with Western decor. Hope you found some inspiration!
