great flea market finds

by fh_kerri on JULY 29, 2011
I love to go to the flea market. My ideal Saturday afternoon, especially when it's cold and gloomy (which in Milwaukee, are most Saturday's from November to April), is spent pilfering through other people's stuff. It is one of my favorite past-times. Luckily, we have more than our fare share of indoor flea markets here... Read more »

wanted: chalkboard office accessories

by fh_rachel on JULY 28, 2011
I have a decorating thing for chalkboards. I have no idea where it came from, but I'm always drawn to chalkboard paint or boards with scrawled notes in a kitchen,  in an office or used for organization. Which brings me to CB2 and their new chalkboard office accessories. I mean, brilliant, right? They're sturdy, cute,... Read more »

tiki bar tour milwaukee

by fh_rachael on JULY 27, 2011
Under the soft glow of porcupinefish lights and watchful eye of carved tiki idols, our production coordinator, Dena, a tiny thing of just over 100 pounds, leans over the massive wood bar and politely says to the bartender, “I’ll take a Bora Bora headhunter, please.” Yes, I think to myself, tonight’s gonna be a good... baseball baby shower

by fh_rachel on JULY 26, 2011
Jennifer from Seakettle threw the most adorable baseball-themed baby shower for her best friend, and I couldn't wait to share it. As a huge baseball fan (and honestly, not a huge fan of petit fours, tea and silly games that involve diapers and chocolate candy), I love the idea of a more masculine shindig. Jennifer... cool or crazy: hidden pictures in concrete

by fh_rachel on JULY 25, 2011
Hmm: Is this concrete concept from artists Frederik Molenschot and Susanne Happle cool or crazy? They call it Solid Poetry — whenever the concrete is wet, hidden images appear. I could see it on sidewalks, sure, but how about concrete countertops or floors? What do you think? Could you see something like this in your... Read more »

sneak peek: ikea’s 2012 catalog

by fh_rachel on JULY 25, 2011
Last week, I got a sneak peek at Ikea‘s 2012 catalog. Seriously, this time of year is like Christmas for design nerds! The 374 pages are chock-full of great design inspiration via Ikea's tried-and-true products, and new innovations. As usual, Ikea focuses on smart, sustainable design, but in 2012 pay special attention to: Space savers:... Read more »

what are your decorating mantras?

by fh_rachel on JULY 22, 2011
I was pleasantly surprised to find one of our stories from our fall 2010 issue scanned in and pinned up on Pinterest (you are following me there, right?): Made me think about my decorating mantras, rules, words to live by. But first I want to hear yours. What are your decorating mantras?

favorite things: lamps

by fh_heather on JULY 21, 2011
Despite my general inclination to buy only what I need for the house, mixed with a healthy dose of being downright cheap, there is one item I tend to overbuy: lamps. I don't know what it is, but it's hard for me to pass up a good lamp. I typically have two or three of... Read more »
