fave soup bowls + soup recipes

by fh_rachael on FEBRUARY 22, 2011

I admit it. Late February is a tough time for me. The thrill of the holidays is long gone and every time we hit a hopeful warm spell (45 degrees in Wisconsin is regarded as a heat wave), another dumping of snow soon follows. Sigh. Twenty-six days until the first day of spring—not that I’m counting!

To keep my spirits up, I like to spend time in my cozy kitchen making body- and soul-warming concoctions. I’m talking soup. Give me a glass of cab, a stockpot and a wooden spoon, and I’m a happy girl.

I’ve made this soup and it’s, by far, one of my favorite recipes. The flavors are complex and deep, yet it’s so easy to make!

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

It would look gorgeous served in this:

A guilty pleasure, for sure. I make this soup with dark beer and like to serve it with a big soft pretzel. Damn the diet!

Wisconsin Native’s Beer Cheese Soup

I can’t imagine serving this in anything but hand-thrown pottery:

This one is on my list to make next week. It’s the combination of root veggies, lentils and fruit that really intrigues me.

Sweet Potato, Carrot, Apple and Red Lentil Soup

I love these deep porcelain bowls. Their earthy hued graphics would look great next to this pumpkin-colored soup:

I’m always on the lookout for new recipes. If you have any YOU would like to share, lemme have ‘em!

Soup? Now you're talking my language. This recipe makes me cry with happiness: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Rich-Italian-Sausage-and-Potato-Soup/Detail.aspx. I use regular bacon because I always forget to buy pancetta. And, because when I do try and remember to buy it, I end up with proscuitto because I know it's some “p” meat. Ugh. Also? Great Food Fast (Martha's cookbook) has some amazing soup recipes: curried carrot soup: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/curried-carrot-soup and the lentil/carrot soup are two of my faves: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/lentil-soup. Those are my three faves that I cook regularly. Get to stirrin', woman!
