There’s a house in my neighborhood that has a bright yellow front door. I remember it being quite the hubbub when the homeowners painted it. (“Really? Yellow? You’ve gotta be kidding me.”) At first, it seemed garish, but it’s grown on me, and I’ve started to wonder why more people don’t step out of the natural wood or neutral box and paint a bright color on their front doors. It’s a great way to express your personality and add unique curb appeal.
So I’m setting out to prove that every color of the rainbow makes a perfectly good front door color.
Here’s the official ROY G BIV of front doors:
Red. The most inviting color for a front door in the Feng Shui philosophy. (from Creamy Life)
Red. This is decorated for the holidays, but the door is inviting all year round, especially with those red sconces. And I can’t get enough of that etched address number! (from Country Living)
Orange. I was dubious of this color, but these examples are some of my favorites. (from Pacific Mutual Door)
Orange. What a beautiful orange to complement grey. (from Apartment Therapy)
Yellow. Although it seems to fit best with a contemporary exterior … (from Design*Sponge)
… yellow also works really well on a more traditional porch. This is beautiful. (from Blueprint)
Green. There’s something so rich looking about this kelly green door paired with black trim. Very Kelly Wearstler-looking. (from Planetware)
Green. This lime green might be a bit much, but since it looks like those are palm trees, I bet this is from a tropical location, and how fitting is that? (from A Few Fancy Things)
Blue. Ah, our steady friend, navy blue. This looks very welcoming and very calming. (from Creamy Life)
Blue. This lighter blue is simply a classic. (from Coastal Living)
Purple. I was dubious of purple, too, but I actually like this with the gold hardware. (from Creamy Life)
Purple. Wow! This is bright and stunning. I’m not sure it’d work on a tudor’s front door, but these French doors, trimmed in green, pull it off well. (from Design*Sponge)
Black. Ok, I know black and white aren’t really colors, but I thought they deserved some space, too. I think a glossy black is a regal and classy choice for the front door. Not ominous at all, especially when paired with a white exterior. (from Canadian House & Home)
White. This oh-so-popular-lately color is clean, crisp and a bold choice for the front door. (from Canadian House & Home)

My front doors are currently off white, not a true beige - nor a true white. It was a compromise. I wanted to paint them red, but hubby didn't. Against the grey stones of the house and the slate blue of the front porch they look okay. They don't stand out though.

Is he happy with it? Paint's so easy to re-do — you could try another color and see if you both like it better. Thanks for reading!

I'm about to go orange with my door. I'm a little nervous about it, but my boring ol' cookie cutter ranch could use a punch of color. I just might let you know how it goes )

Does your ‘door color' reveal what's you've got inside? Love this post.

I painted our front door with enamel, John Deer Green. It is outlined in a chocolate brown trim. We love it and have received several compliments from the neighbors. I hope they are not just being polite.
