You’ve all seen my bedroom color conundrum. And if you can believe it, I’m considering (just considering) scrapping it all and painting the walls bright white.
But that seems like jumping on some sort of all-neutral, all-the-time bandwagon. All I see anymore are white, white, white bedrooms.
So I set out to figure out how to bring color into your bedroom — either with paint color on the wall, colorful furniture, or pops of color with smart accessories.
Painting the Walls
It’s the most straight-forward way to infuse color into your space. Some bold ideas I love:
White walls above the picture rail work with the yellow wallpaper below. The natural wood combined with yellow and gray is a great combo. (from Ideal Home)
Smart pairing: all-white bedding with a bright, clean turquoise walls. I wouldn’t ever think to put blue furniture next to blue walls, but it works here (from designspongeonline.com)
From an IKEA showroom: bright green walls that work well with neutral bedding and dark furniture.
Similarly here. This kelly green is hard to pull off, but looks fantastic with the black-and-white duvet. (from sheilabridges.com)
Or, just take on one wall, or part of a wall, like this bold patterned wall that acts as a headboard … (from houseofturquoise.com)
White as a Backdrop
Maybe I’m just craving color in my space because my accessories aren’t working hard enough. Personally, I think I’m more drawn to the white, white walls and surprising pops of colors via textiles and accessories, like these:
A beautiful quilt does the trick.
Or a colorful duvet and sheets with coordinating curtains and furniture. Notice the walls and ceilings are the exact same bright white, which makes the small space feel larger.(from 8rd.org)
This is my style to a T: white, white, white with a mix of colors and patterns from pillows and wall art. I think this might be my favorite. (from Inside Out Magazine)
Stark white with a punch! (from 103bluepoolroad.blogspot.com)
More punch, but with more color from the lamps and accessories. Love the symmetry, too. (from remodelingcenter.com)
So, what’s your verdict? Do you love white/neutral bedrooms or do you prefer color? And if you like color, is it splashed on the walls or punched throughout the room with accessories?
