Step 1: Stamp the Paper

Use a foam roller to spread acrylic paint onto a paper plate; then, lower the stamp into the paint. Stamp the paper in a random pattern and leave to dry.

TIP

Practice stamping on rice paper offcuts to get a feel for the optimum pressure required.

Step 2: Apply the Gold Leaf

Brush acrylic gilding size onto the stamp and apply to the paper, slightly overlapping the acrylic pattern. When the size is tacky, position gold leaf and press gently, leave to dry then remove unattached gold leaf by rubbing in a circular motion with a soft cloth.

For an authentic finish, use a brush to moisten the edges about 1/2-in. in; then, tear along this line and leave to dry. Turn over 2 3/4-in. of the top edge to the back and secure with adhesive tape.
