Step 1: Make Room Overhead

Use a stud finder to locate the ceiling joists; then, screw in two decorative or open-ended ceiling hooks 36-in. apart.

Use 14-feet of 1/2-in. sisal rope to hang the rack. Check the height by adding 5 1/2-in. for the S hooks to the length of the biggest utensil and adjust the rope so the utensil finishes 32-in. above the bench.

Step 2: Assemble the Frame

From clear 1 x 2 pine or hardwood, cut three 40-in. rails and five 18-in. crosspieces. Position them in a lattice pattern and secure then with #8 x 1 1/4-in.

Lightly sand all the surfaces with 180-grit sandpaper.

Step 3: Apply the Finish

Position the frame on timber offcuts for access to all surfaces, and use a brush to apply first primer, then two coats of semi gloss white enamel, sanding between coats with 180-grit sandpaper.

Step 4: Hang the Rack

Cut your rope in half and tie the ends to the corners of the rack using two half hitches. Loop the rope onto the ceiling hooks; then, position S hooks to evenly distribute the weight of the utensils.
