Step 1: Increase the Height

To extend the height of your steamer to accommodate spice jars, cut a strip of stiff cardboard to height and wrap it around the steamer lip. Glue and "clamp" the strip in place using paperclips.

Step 2: Paint the Caddy

Apply primer and two coats of high-gloss paint. In this photo, two steamers are stacked on top of each other, doubling the storage space.

Step 3: Cut the Base

Mark a piece of 1/4-in. plywood so it's about 3/8-in. smaller than the bottom of the caddy. Cut with a jigsaw, then lightly sand the edges.

Step 4: Attach the Casters

Use 1/4-in. wood screws to attach four small casters about 3/4-in. in from the edge of the plywood.

Step 5: Attach the Base

Attach the plywood to the base of the steamer with wood glue. You're ready to roll.
