Step 1: Assemble the Sides

Position the large tabletop pieces together (see diagrams below; first diagram shows measurements for both tables, and the second shows the measurements for the large tabletop); then, position the sides flush around the large and small tabletops, butting the shorter boards against the long ones. Check for square; then, secure the joints using wood glue and two #8 x 1 1/2-in. wood screws at each corner.

TIP

The parts are cut from one sheet of 3/4-in.-thick medium density fiberboard (MDF). The large tabletop pieces are 24-in. x 48-in. with one corner cut at 45°. Have the parts cut by the supplier, or use a circular saw with a straightedge guide.

Step 2: Join and Attach the Tops

Use a 4-in. x 12-in. MDF offcut to join the mitered tabletop, securing with wood glue and #8 x 1 1/4-in. wood screws. Apply wood glue around the side frames; then, position the tabletops, securing with #8 x 1 1/2-in. wood screws 8-in. apart.

Step 3: Secure the Blocks

Apply glue to one end and two sides of the blocks; then, position them in the corners, clamping to the sides until dry.

Step 4: Attach the Legs

Position the legs on the corner blocks so the base plate is flush with the sides (attaching the legs to the blocks and the sides stabilizes the tables); then drill 1/16-in. pilot holes through the fixing holes, securing with the supplied #8 x 5/8-in. wood screws.

Step 5: Fill the Joints and Finish

Use wood filler to patch the joints and leave to dry. Sand all the surfaces and edges lightly with 240-grit sandpaper; then, apply primer or undercoat and two coats of acrylic paint using a sponge roller.
