Step 1: Paint and Prepare

Prep the surface of your stool by lightly sanding it before applying primer. Once the primer is dry, apply a couple of thin coats of water-based flat enamel.

Step 2: Draw or Print the Image

Transfer the image you want onto stencil paper such as Wax-O ($5, hobbylobby.com). Using a craft knife, cut out the sections to be painted.

Step 3: Position the Stencil On the Seat

Secure the stencil with painter's tape. Use a paintbrush to apply poster paint, then peel the stencil off and let the paint dry.

Step 4: Add Finishing Touches

Use the craft knife to scrape clean any untidy lines, then seal with a waterproof wood sealer.
