Step 1: Sand and Seal the Finish

Use a detail sander to remove peeling paint, smoothing through to bare wood where required. Clean away the dust; then, apply two coats of clear polyurethane, smoothing lightly with 240-grit sandpaper between coats.

TIP

We used an oversized door recycled from a home renovation. You can also buy a new door.

Step 2: Attach the Mirror

On the back of the mirror, attach heavy-duty double-sided adhesive tape to position it in the top panel, pushing it to secure.

Step 3: Attach Hardware

Secure name plates, coat hooks, sconces or any other hardware you choose with brass screws, using a screwdriver to attach them by hand.

Step 4: Secure the Door

On the back of the door, measure 6-in. from the top and 2 1/2-in. from the sides, then secure heavy-duty strap hangers with the supplied screws.

To hang on masonry, drill two holes for metal masonry wall anchors 79-in. from the floor and 32-in. apart to secure the door using wall plugs and 1/4-in x 2 1/2-in. lag bolt screw hooks.

For a plasterboard wall, secure the bolts into the wall studs and mark the position of the strap hangers on the back of the door.
